Coaching & Volunteering

The success of any minor sports organization is fully dependent on the commitment made by volunteers.
we are grateful to those who put in hours of time throughout the season as coaches, assistant coaches, and volunteers.

COACHING credentials

Starting in 2024, in an effort to improve the experience for all involved in Powell River Minor Baseball, we moved to align our association's standards with other minor sports organizations by having volunteers complete a  vulnerable sector criminal record check and take the Respect in Sport program. In 2026, we added Safe Sport certification to our coaching requirements.

Criminal Record Check

The Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP) enables volunteers to conveniently submit their criminal record check application online through the website.

Respect in Sport

The Respect in Sport Activity Leader/Coach Program educates youth leaders, coaches, officials and participants to recognize, understand and respond to issues of bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination (BAHD).

PRMBA is requiring all coaches and division managers to complete the Respect in Sport program to ensure the safety of all participants.  If you have completed the Respect in Sport program in another sport, please share it with registrar@prmba.org

Summer Ball coaching credentials

Opportunities exist for coaches wishing to lead additional spring "exhibition" teams or rostering teams in the summer ball program.  BC Minor Baseball requires all coaching staff of summer teams to be  National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certified and trained in order to roster a team.

Coaches must first register with the NCCP and pay the one-time registration fee before they can attend the online clinics. There are several free online modules that coaches must take, as well as to attend virtual clinics with other coaches, usually taking place between February and June, and ranging in cost from $40-$60 each. The age of the team you wish to coach, will determine which level of certification you will require. The coach of a younger team can add clinics each year and slowly build up their credentials as they advance and coach older teams. A coach hoping to start from scratch at an older age will have a lot more clinics to take to get fully certified.

For more information on NCCP certification process,  as well as the certification requirments for each age group, please go to https://www.baseball.bc.ca/coaching or email coaching@prmba.org
