All participants acknowledge that by taking part in Powell River Minor Baseball in any capacity (as a player, parent/guardian, coach, volunteer, umpire, spectator, or board member) it is assumed that you understand, agree to abide by, and accept that you will be held to the conduct standards outlined within this document, the Powell River Minor Baseball Association Code of Conduct Manual.

1. INTRODUCTION & PURPOSE

The Powell River Minor Baseball Association (PRMBA) is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and positive environment for youth baseball. We believe that baseball should promote teamwork, sportsmanship, respect for others, and personal development.

This Code of Conduct sets out expectations for behavior on and off the field for all members involved in PRMBA activities. It applies to players, coaches, managers, parents/guardians, spectators, volunteers, and officials.

This policy is aligned with the conduct standards of BC Minor Baseball and BC Baseball’s Safe Sport Framework and will be enforced in all league games, tournaments, practices, PRMBA meetings, and team-sanctioned travel. 


2. SCOPE OF APPLICATION

This Code of Conduct applies to:

  • Players
  • Coaches and Coaching Assistants
  • Parents/Guardians
  • Spectators
  • Umpires and Officials
  • Volunteers
  • Executive Board Members

Participant refers to any person in these roles attending or involved in PRMBA activities. This includes on-field and off-field behaviour (e.g., practices, games, tournaments, team travel, team events, and engagement with social media).


3. GENERAL BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS

All participants are expected to:

3.1 Show Respect and Sportsmanship

  • Treat all participants (players, coaches, officials, spectators) with dignity and respect.
  • Demonstrate fair play, courtesy, and good sportsmanship in all interactions.
  • Respect decisions made by officials and refrain from disputing judgment calls in a hostile manner.
  • Promote positive encouragement, not criticism or ridicule.

3.2 Lead with Integrity

  • Follow the rules, regulations, and policies of PRMBA, BCMBA, and the BC Baseball Safe Sport Framework.
  • Abide by Baseball Canada rules as applicable.
  • Not engage in any form of discrimination, harassment, or abusive behavior.

3.3 Prioritize Safety and Well-Being

  • Avoid using tobacco, cannabis, alcohol, non-prescription drugs, or performance-enhancing substances at PRMBA events.
  • Follow Safe Sport and risk management policies (e.g., concussion safety, appropriate conduct around minors). 

4. SPECIFIC CODES OF CONDUCT

4.1 Players

Players must:

  • Show respect for coaches, teammates, opponents, umpires, and volunteers.
  • Accept umpire and coach decisions, refraining from comment or gesture.
  • Encourage teammates and always demonstrate positive behaviour.
  • Respect the playing field, equipment, and facilities.

4.2 Coaches & Team Officials

Coaches and team officials must:

  • Model respectful behaviour and leadership at all times.
  • Promote skill development, positive reinforcement, and fair play.
  • Ensure that practices and games are conducted in a safe and structured manner.
  • Refrain from aggressive or abusive behaviour toward others.

4.3 Parents & Guardians

Parents/guardians must:

  • Be positive role models for athletes and show respect toward coaches, officials, and other families.
  • Refrain from coaching from the stands or interfering with coaching decisions during games.
  • Keep comments and behavior encouraging, constructive, and supportive.
  • Avoid inappropriate language, gestures, or behavior toward any participant.

4.4 Spectators

Spectators must:

  • Respect game officials and abide by umpire decisions.
  • Cheer respectfully for teams and refrain from negative or disruptive commentary.
  • Refrain from heckling, taunting, or interfering with play.

5. EXAMPLES OF UNACCEPTABLE CONDUCT

Unacceptable conduct includes, but is not limited to:

Minor infractions:

  • Disrespectful or offensive comments.
  • Arguing decisions in an unsportsmanlike manner.
  • Non-compliance with basic rules of conduct and behaviour.

Major infractions:

  • Physical contact with an official or another participant.
  • Repeated abusive or discriminatory behaviour.
  • Falsifying information or attempting to mislead officials. 
  • Vandalism of PRMBA materials or City of Powell River property.

6. CONFLICT & DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES

6.1 Reporting a Concern

If an issue arises:

  • First, speak privately with the opposing coach or individual involved, when safe and appropriate.
  • Then, give it 24hrs to see if it can be personally resolved, or tensions diffuse, and then reach out to your division manager for support. 
  • If unresolvable through these means, the division manager will reach out to the PRMBA President and VP. 

6.2 Discipline Actions

Depending on severity, discipline may include:

  • Warning(s)
  • Required behavior counseling or safe sport training
  • Written apology
  • Game suspension(s)
  • Loss of privileges
  • Removal from team or association activities
  • Referral to BC Minor Baseball Discipline Committee

Note: The PRMBA Board reserves the right to determine final consequences based on individual circumstances and guidance from Baseball BC and BC Minor Baseball Association.


7. ENFORCEMENT & ACCOUNTABILITY

  • All participants have the responsibility to uphold this code.
  • Coaches are responsible for ensuring parents and players understand the Code of Conduct expectations.
  • Officials may intervene and remove participants whose conduct is unsafe or disruptive.
  • PRMBA may enforce additional policies consistent with BCMBA and Baseball BC.

8. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
